You hear it so often now you’re probably singing cute little melodies about water in your sleep! There’s plenty of reason to drink more water because it’s just so darn good for you.
But besides a few hydrogens bonded to oxygen, what makes water so appealing? Well, nothing actually. Plain water is tasteless (mostly) and colorless (hopefully…). It’s boring!
However, our bodies are made up of nearly 60 percent water. So we must stay hydrated to be healthy and well.
If you’re someone who struggles to get excited about drinking plain ole’ water, don’t worry. Help is here! Make drinking more water flavorful and fun with a few fruit-infused water recipes.
This is a great way to increase your water intake. (Plus you can eat the fruit once you’ve downed the tasty water!)
Fruit water is refreshing, delicious and super easy to make. You don’t need any special ingredients. Grab extra fruit you have in your fridge or pick up your favorites next time you go grocery shopping. It’s versatile and can be customized just the way you like it!
How To Make Fruit Infused Water
Fruit. Water. Ice. That’s basically all you need to make an appetizing alternative for sugary drinks. Herbs like basil and mint leaves are also great to add for a burst of flavor.
Citrus fruits and fresh herbs work best for infusing because they have lots of flavor and hold together well in liquid. Berries and other fruits are also great but may break down more quickly in the water.
Mixing your infused water recipes can be as simple as using a glass or mason jar. It can also be helpful to have an infusion pitcher or infusion water bottle. Not necessary, but the built-in infuser can keep things cleaner. It allows the fruit to sit in its own nesting container while it infuses the water.
To get started you want to wash and prep your fruit, as well as any veggies or herbs you may want to throw in. After everything is clean, cut up your items and toss them into your bottle or pitcher.
Add water and let it chill in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. You’re welcome to pour your healthy drink over ice cubes and enjoy right away. But letting it chill a little longer will help bring the flavors to life!
If you’re a fan of sodas and carbonated beverages, try subbing the water for a sparkling water. This a great way to get your bubble fix without the excess calories that sugary beverages carry.
PRO TIP: True Lemon Fruit Infusions are a great option, making it even easier to get that fresh fruit flavor everywhere you go, without any prep or mess.
