As grown-ups, we usually long to go back to our carefree childhood. Days when we had no responsibilities and seemed to have no struggles.

But the truth is, being a kid can be tough, too. If you think back, you may remember. Especially those pre-teen and teenage years. Young bodies go through so much during that time. And kids don’t always understand what’s happening. They may not know as much about nutrition and physical exercise. They aren’t sure how to develop a good relationship with their own bodies.

Girls and young women especially struggle with body image issues. These issues only get more pronounced as they grow.

Help your child see how beautiful they are. Help her remain confident throughout her formative years. As a parent or caregiver, you have an opportunity to make the biggest impact on your child. You can affect their mental and emotional wellbeing during challenging developmental years.

How Girls on the Run®️ Makes An Impact

Girls on the Run®️ is a physical activity-based positive youth development program. It’s designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors. The goal is to help them successfully navigate life experiences.


The organization works to connect physical and emotional health. The program reaches young girls at a critical stage in life. The program helps girls strengthen their self-confidence and build strong relationships.


The program teaches skills like how to help others, resolve conflict and make good decisions. Participants improve their connection with others and increase physical activity. Overall, the program inspires girls to build healthy habits that last long after they leave.

Tips to help young girls to feel their best.

It’s important to keep healthy hearts, minds and bodies. As we get older, we take behaviors that we’ve learned over the years with us into adulthood. Building healthy habits earlier in life helps us grow emotionally, mentally and physically strong throughout adulthood. Here are a few tips to help grow into a strong and confident adult.


1. Eat healthy. Growing up strong means feeding your body nutrients it needs to take on the challenges it faces. Eating a well-balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and veggies is the perfect start.


Eat a good breakfast so your body is properly fueled. This also make you less likely to overeat later in the day. Swap starchy foods like white bread and rice for whole grains. And it’s OK to have a treat every once in a while! But try to limit excess sugar like cookies, cake and candy.


2. Stay hydrated.

Water is one of the best things you can do for your body. Choosing water over sugary beverages is another great way to cut empty calories and stay healthy. 4. Sleep well. School, sports and a social life can make it tough to get the right amount of sleep. You’re always juggling activities and responsibilities. In return you feel better, think better and perform better in school and outside activities.


5. Remain open and aware of emotions.

This is a big one. We all have emotions – sometimes good and sometimes not so good. It’s OK to have feelings and it’s good to recognize when we may not be feeling OK. Allow yourself to feel those feelings. And if you’re comfortable – talk with someone about them. It can be a friend, a teacher, a parent or even a counselor. Sharing your feelings with someone you trust is a good way to help you deal with a difficult or overwhelming emotion.
