Meet the drink that’s stealing hearts (and TikTok feeds)—dirty soda! Part soda shop nostalgia, part creamy dream, with a citrus twist you’ll crave. Think of dirty soda as the ultimate mix-and-match drink. Sweet, creamy, fizzy, and endlessly customizable—it’s the perfect treat for when you’re feeling fancy or just want a fun twist on your favorite soda.
Whether you're a fan of Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, or even classic root beer, this refreshing mocktail is a perfect non-alcoholic treat. Think of it as a grown-up take on an ice cream float—with a unique twist: the zesty kick of True Lime! It’s a great way to enjoy a flavorful, bubbly drink, especially during Dry January or whenever you're looking for a fun alcohol-free option.
What Makes Dirty Soda So Special?
Originally popularized in Utah soda shops, the original dirty soda recipe started as a simple combination of cola, cream, and flavor syrups. Its customizable nature and over-the-top flavors quickly turned it into a must-try favorite drink, and the trend has now gone viral, thanks to the Latter-day Saints community and social media.
Here's why this modern take on an Italian soda is stealing hearts:
- Unique Flavor Combination: The mix of coconut syrup, lime, and your go-to soda creates a rich, tropical vibe perfect for any occasion.
- Customizable Options: Switch it up with diet soda or sugar-free coconut syrup or add a splash of raspberry syrup or strawberry puree for a fruity twist.
- Fun to Make: With just a large glass, some pebble ice, and a handful of simple ingredients, this drink comes together in minutes.
A True Lime Upgrade for Your Dirty Soda
What sets this dirty soda recipe apart is the convenience of True Lime. Instead of squeezing a fresh lime or dealing with the inconsistency of bottled lime juice, a single packet of True Lime delivers a perfectly balanced citrus flavor—every time. With its long shelf life, zero mess and easy portability, True Lime is a hassle-free way to elevate your soda without worrying about freshness or waste. Plus, you can find it at your grocery store or online, making it a must-have pantry staple for recreating your favorite soda shop drinks.
Endless Dirty Soda Variations to Try
Love this recipe but want to experiment? Try these fun twists:
- Dirty Dr. Pepper: Swap out Coke for Diet Dr. Pepper and add a dash of cherry juice or coconut cream for a decadent twist.
- Tropical Coke Float: Add a scoop of ice cream for a creamy, fizzy treat.
- Citrus Splash: Use club soda or diet soda as a base, and layer in True Lime and your favorite fruit juice for a lighter, refreshing drink.
With so many flavor possibilities, the only limit is your imagination!

Ingredients
- 12 fl oz
Coke
- 2 tbsp
half & half, or your choice of creamer
Ice as needed
- 1 tbsp
coconut syrup
- 1 1/2 fl oz
Malibu Rum (Optional)
Directions
- Fill a large glass with ice (to your liking)
- Layer on the coconut syrup, True Lime, Coke, and half & half
- Stir well and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
You can sub the coconut syrup and half & half for 2 tbsp of coconut creamer. That way, the 'milk' won't instantly curdle from the lime.
Feel free to add a little spirits to your Dirty soda when layering in the coconut syrup and True Lime. It's technically against it's roots, but we won't tell if you don't!
