The First Lady Versus Teen Heart Disease – Who Will Win?
Our First Lady is out there, planting whole foods and showing kids it’s fun to exercise. But it might be too late for many American teenagers today.
Prediabetes and diabetes are on the rise among teens, and that means more teens have a bigger risk of getting heart disease.
A National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey showed that the number of teens who are prediabetic or diabetic more than doubled over the last decade. And since diabetes means an increased risk of cardio-vascular disease (CVD), that means more teens will likely suffer heart disease later in life.
The study said “the results of this national study indicate that U.S. adolescents carry a substantial burden of CVD risk factors, especially those youth who are overweight or obese. Adolescence represents a window of opportunity for assessment of CVD risk factors and the promotion of lifestyles that will affect the development and progression of CVD."
So getting a message out to kids about eating and drinking better couldn’t be more timely!
Here at True Citrus, we have to toot our horn and tell you that doctors, nutritionists and pediatricians highly recommend True Citrus’ all natural flavors over sodas, sports drinks and other sugary, artificial stuff that kids (and grownups!) don’t need.
We started True Lemon with the idea of making it easier to use the all-natural goodness of lemon. But we quickly realized from our own families that youngsters love our Vitamin C-rich flavors and will very happily use them in water, saving them all kind of health damage from high-fructose drinks!
So if you’ve got teens in your house, give them a True Citrus variety pack (there’s 140 packets for drinks in there!) It just might literally save them from heartache later in life.
